This dining room belongs to a university professor and a university vice president. Valuing education as they do, they naturally wanted to work with a properly educated and experienced designer on their new home. As is usual in a home under construction, we had lots of decisions to make, including paint colors and lighting. The color scheme was selected for warmth and a little drama. We opted not to put in a rug because the builder put a beautiful border design in the hardwood floor. He also put in very nice trimwork around the window, so I designed a window treatment to soften the room, but not hide the trim. The clients already had the table and chairs; we reupholstered the chairs and added the sideboard. You may note that the arrangements of greenery are just that; they are not floral arrangements. The man of the house is an avid hiker, so we felt that some very outdoorsy-looking greenery would be much more appropriate than floral arrangements. As much as they enjoy their new home, the university vice president told me that in the process of our working together, she enjoyed learning about design. |
