Sometimes people hire me because they’ve inherited furniture and aren’t really sure what to do with it. This guest bedroom belongs to clients who inherited some pieces of Art Deco bedroom furniture. They knew they didn’t want to use the original double bed, but weren’t sure whether they should keep the vanity and chest of drawers. I voted in favor of using the furniture. To complete the set and complement the Art Deco pieces, I added a queen-sized bed and two bedside tables with clean lines. Then, because Art Deco calls for a sophisticated look, I used a monochromatic color scheme and designed simple but dramatic window treatments, as well as custom bedcoverings. A mix of Impressionist and Japanese art was also selected. Note the vanity lamps – they look as though they are straight out of the 1930’s, but they’re new. The inherited furniture has been put to good use in its sophisticated new quarters. |
